EMT Basics provide Basic Level of Care: bandaging, splinting, taking vitals, using monitors, and operating an AED. They stabilize patients and transport them to hospital but cannot perform advanced procedures or give advanced medications without a Paramedic.
Paramedics use medications and advanced procedures to treat patients or keep them stable until hospital care. They may run the Fly Car and operate as TEMS if trained and required.
Patient care combines clinical skill and attitude. EMS personnel must treat injuries physically and mentally with strong bedside manner, remaining professional with patients and others while in uniform.
Paramedics may be called to declare a patient deceased. They must check for signs of life via pulse checks and ECG monitoring; if no cardiac activity is present, they state the official time of death. If activity is found, CPR must be initiated.
EMS can carry a taser while on the clock. All EMS wishing to hold a taser must go through taser certification with MRPD. You must hold an active weapons license and adhere to taser rules.
Uniforms are required on duty. All ranks must use scarf and chains 96 or 97. Below are the standard components for each role in SAEMS.
